An interview with jewellery designer Dani Fahy of Dani Crompton designs

An interview with jewellery designer Dani Fahy @ Dani Crompton Designs

Dani takes inspiration from the natural world around her to create one of a kind organic jewellery bursting with colour and texture.

She combines materials to depict the textures, sounds, smells and magic of woodlands and the seaside, capturing it's beauty in pieces of wearable art. Each piece naturally evolves through the making process and can never be reproduced.

Her collection makes a statement and she encourages people to be bold and stand out amongst the crowd.

Who are you, where do you come from?

My name is Dani and I was born in West London.

I am now based on the outer edges of London in Surrey.
I have been working as an independent jewellery designer since graduating from the London based Sir John Cass Jewellery School in 1999. I have always worked from home allowing me to be close to my family and raise my children. My lifelong love of horses and time spent outdoors with them has nurtured by love of nature which can be seen in the organic, mixed media jewellery designs I create today.

How did you start, and why did you choose your craft?
I come from an artistic family who have always encouraged my creativity. A love of wearing jewellery directed my choice of artistic study towards jewellery design.

Tell us about yourself and your creations.

I have worked in a number of materials over the years, having studied mainly in precious metal at university. I have never been attracted to gemstones but wanted to add colour to my work and have done so through the use of acrylic, bead work, paper, leather and base metals to name a just a few. I feel that combining materials brings out the best in each one and currently enjoy using my own method of combing metals such as silver and copper with intricate glass seed beads. The process is also very satisfying as it involves both heavy hammer forging and delicate needlework.

Do you have a favourite piece ?

My favourite design to date is my Ancient Stone Wall Necklace.

I feel it captured my love of mixed media, nature and contemporary design. (see image just below)
